Winter Blues

Winter Blues | The Fresh Exchange

This weekend was pretty amazing. We shot an amazing dinner party that will post this week on the blog. We hung with new and old friends. We even got to have a great brunch on Sunday as well. It felt wonderful, but I have felt so out of it and a little grumpy. Why? The winter blues. While the East has been getting so much snow we have had a little warm up with rain…not the best weather. I think Winter has settled in and the evening dinners that end by the fire help so much, but with long lists of to-dos and little time outside it is not a surprise that you begin to get all these angsty feelings going on.

Today I woke up feeling so tired for really no reason and completely uninspired. I did not want to fake the post I had planned for today, because my vow is to be honest here. So here I am telling you the winter blues have gotten the best of me. Every year it happens. We have a trip planned to Raleigh, North Carolina at the beginning of March so I am keeping my eyes on the sun and warmer weather to thaw out some of these feelings.

Do you all struggle with this too? I think I just need more vitamin D. Sometimes I just miss the warm weather and days out on the sailboat, that’s okay right?

Happy Monday you all and sorry to be debbie-downer cause this weekend was crazy awesome and I cannot wait to share more!!! If you have some great tips for killing the blues, let me know I could use them.

  1. I’ve started using the Pomodoro technique – spend 25 minutes solidly working on something, then take five minutes off. There is an app which does the timing/clock ticking, five minute break for you for your mac/pc. It’s helped me do work in the past week that I haven’t wanted to do for ages and really efficiently. It’s not a ‘blues’ antidote, but helping me get things done despite the blues (or the snow/rain/wind combination of the past few days).

  2. I’ve been trapped in my tiny one-bedroom apartment for 3 days because of the almost 4 feet of snow outside. So yeah, I feel you. And I LOVE the winter, but this is just a bit much.

  3. I am right there with you! I’m one of those East Coasters that got clobbered with loads of snow (over 3 ft) and have been stuck inside for 3 days! I’m such a summer girl at heart so the winter blues set in quite quickly for me. Hang in there!

  4. Oh I know how this is! This morning I felt the same… Poor husband… I kept snapping at him. If the warm weather keeps coming then hopefully it will stop 🙂 Because we have no time for vacation!

  5. You should try taking Vitamin D! And you could even get one of those lights that make you feel more “up” in the winter 🙂

  6. I woke up feeling the exact same way. I was just in a “funk” all day for no reason. But then Thomas and I went out for tango lessons and I feel much better. You should quick up the music and have a dance party with Mike. 😉

  7. you’re not alone, sister. this slushy-icy-snowday mix we’ve been downladen with in northern michigan is just not cutting it! i’m feeling the blues too, i’m keeping my eyes focused on our trip to the grand canyon at the beginning of april — but it’s still tough to shake the grey-day icks!

    chin up!
