Make it Happen, Megan Gilger, Traverse City, The Fresh Exchange, Business Inspiration

The heart is a powerful thing not just for what it does everyday to keep us alive and kickin’ but for what it tells us. Growing up my parents always told me to follow my heart. Looking back I am impressed with their boldness in telling an emotional teenager that following your heart was a good thing. That could have gone terribly wrong but they must have known me. I have always been one to wear my heart on my sleeve, learn from mistakes, and live in the moment.

Our hearts speak the true feelings we have about life and where we really want to be. The head always seems to rationalize that and water down those strong emotions, which can be good but it can keep us from taking the step in the right direction.

So how does that apply to blogging? I believe some of the best blog posts are those where we think less with our heads and more with our hearts. You know what you want to write about, you know what inspires you, and you should share that. Allow your head to do the editing, but listen to your heart closely, it is more likely to take you to amazing places than your head ever will. Passion and love do not come from the head but rather from the heart.

When I am blogging many times my head is saying “Spell everything right, be informative, and cross your t’s and dot your i’s” I have found when I feel most content with a post is when I stop listening to that and write how I talk, say what I feel, and let the heart win.

In the world of running a business this can be hard to think about, but listening to your heart will surprise you. When I began designing I knew nothing, but I knew what I loved. That love and passion pushed me to learn and still does every day. That passion is what gets me out of bed in the morning. When I set goals I don’t listen to the rational, I listen to the impossible. I know that no matter what at the end of the day I will be happier with taking the risk and working towards my love and passions in life, then if I had set a goal I knew was reachable and would make profit easily. Money will come when you do what you love. People love to see passion in work because so many long to understand how to do the same.

Listen to your heart it may surprise you the wonderful things it will make happen.
