It is the time of year we wait for all year long. The beginning of July. I wrote on Friday last week about the Height of Summer and our weekend was the perfect summer weekend to say the least. We had family in from Texas and Kentucky. We started our first night together all down on the beach. Though it was chilly and cool, we enjoyed the beautiful sunset on the lake watching a freighter pass and skipping rocks on the waves.
The following few days were all about cooking out on the grill, getting to the water, showing Hayes what 4th of july was all about, and sailing.
We took Mike’s parents up to Leelanau county to visit some of our favorite places such as Leland, Northport, and a few wineries. I love giving tours of the county because it always forces us to find some new places and try some new things along the way. This time we discovered some new little shops and cafes we plan to head back to in a few days.
Growing up spending my early years as a child and then spending my summers up here as teenager, part of this holiday weekend was spending days in the water. Whether jumping from boats into the icy cool water on a hot hot day or spending the day on the beach. During those years we went to Sturgeon bay, but honestly, anywhere along the coast will do.
The last day of the 4th of July weekend, we made sure to hit the sailboat full force. We got up early and ended our day in the water. Hayes came along for the ride for the 2nd time and loved it all. We love that our little guy loves adventuring and doing things as much as we do. In fact, his best days aren’t the ones spent at home but out doing things and hiking.
To say we had a good 4th of July is an understatement. Even if it looked a little different with a baby, it still was a ton of fun. It was so special to share the last few days with our families even if all we were missing was one brother and his girlfriend. Maybe next year?
Now for summer to really begin, huh? We are only getting started I think.
