Chair Time

So you remember that guy… the one in the image above? Well now that our new space is coming together I am beginning to plan out how to redo him. I plan to document the process since, honestly, I have not done this before. So you guys can either give me tips or simply have a good laugh. I am pretty sure it will come out great but I thought it would be fun for you all to see the process from a newbie.

Today I am going to begin the process of letting you know what is in the future for the little guy. I feel as if the chair should have a name as we go through the process of giving him a makeover…let’s go with…Harry. Harry the Danish Modern chair…sound good? If not oh well we can always change it later.

Every morning I wake up and see Harry I think of all sorts of ways he could be redone. so if you are looking for a good chair don’t assume a modern chair can’t be that for you if you have a more country or shabby chic style. These pieces are classics and can morph easily into anyone’s look with the right textiles and painting or staining. Harry can move in easily I promise!

But I knew I had to be really honest myself and think about my style and what Mike and I like in our space. He is modern rustic and I am classic eclectic. He loves minimalistic design mixed with things that are sturdy and have a story and have masculine tones to them. Where I really love things that are simple, to the point, and don’t clutter. I love strong white lines, things organized well, cleanliness, and for everything to have it’s place. On the other side I love to add in things that are whimsical, handmade, and and have a story. For instance, I found this white ceramic deer and have it on my desk next to my very sleek modern lamp that is stainless steel and has a linen shade. Another for instance is that embroidered pillow sitting on Harry mixed with his clean modern lines.

That all being said I want Harry’s look to have a simple feeling to it but can be packed with punch when paired with the right pillow. Much like these chairs.

I love how all these chairs have clean looks to them. In my dreams I would have chair 2 but I don’t think it is practical in the sense that I will want to change it in a year. I love the idea of stripes but they may be too bold for our space. This makes me lean more towards the look of 1 and 3.

The one thing consistent about all of these is the wood. I would love to see Harry’s black paint come off and the wood to shine like I am sure it did at one time in his life. That is definitely something I plan on doing.

I have not chosen any fabrics yet but am really mulling it over. I have a hard time committing and because Mike and I are both are designers our space is probably one of the most important things to us. It sounds superficial but for us to be inspired our space needs to be part of that daily. I rearrange my space almost every 2 weeks so obviously I need things to be versatile in order to adjust the space easily. So I am on the hunt now for fabric. Another post to follow on Harry’s new skin.&

I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions for sure! So don’t be shy 🙂

One more post coming later today! Happy Tuesday!
