For the past three of four years, I have been on a strong pursuit to find and create a healthy and natural beauty routine for my skin. When I was doing a cleanse a few years back I learned how our skin is the largest organ on our body and is also exposed to the greatest amount of toxins. Since then it made me shift what I put on my skin every day and how I cared for it throughout the year.

As part of living a seasonal life, I have learned that our skincare routine should be shifting with the seasons as well. Each season offers different challenges to our body and skin, but with proper care we can make the most of it and actually use the elements of each season to our advantage. So, today I am beginning the spring season with a body scrub recipe that you can make at home with kitchen staples that will easily brighten, soften, refresh, and moisturize your skin after a harsh winter.

Sugar scrubs are a natural way to exfoliate your skin with little to no cost. The coconut oil will seal your skin, remove bacteria that causes larger pores, and moisturize so when you walk out of the shower you won’t need to apply moisturizer at all. The sugar actually helps hydrate your skin, will help create younger looking skin, and exfoliate naturally. All important things after the winter. Adding in fresh lemon juice and zest is great for clearing away any dirt that has built up over the winter as well. Not to mention the lemon leaves a fresh and bright smell while using the scrub. To make this scrub you will need:

Ingredients:
1/2 cup pure organic cane sugar
1/2 cup unrefined virgin coconut oil
1 lemon zested and juiced

You can also add in some Wild Orange oil to add an even brighter scent to the scrub. It is easy to add just about any essential oil of your choice in fact.

Items you will need to create this:
1 kitchen or mixing bowl
1 spoon for mixing
2-3 4 oz glass containers to store the scrub in
1 zester for lemon

To make the scrub it is very easy. All you will need to do is place all the ingredients in the mixing bowl and combine them. That is it. Very simple and easy to do.

Once I combine everything I then fill the glass containers with the scrub to be stored in a cool place. The oil will separate some in warm environments, but all you have to do is give it a good shake or stir before you use it. If you do not like the feeling of being oily after a shower, you can simply use your typical soap to wash off after you give yourself a good scrub from head to toe. I personally do not recommend using this on your face. I think the sugar can be a little harsh for facial skin use, but everyone is different.
